The idea of intimacy has been on my mind lately. I took a class called Focused Lives, and the instructor stated that the secret to living a focused life is not meeting a list of goals. The secret is found in maintaining intimacy with God. In other words, if one is in line with God, then everything else will seem to just fall into place. This ministered to me because I’ve always been one to have a list of an infinite number of things to do. I tend to measure my worth according to my productivity.
There have been times when my intimacy with God has wavered because I sacrificed the time that I would have spent with him in order to complete other tasks. If I delight myself in the Lord (Psalm 37:4), he will give me the desires of my heart. Over the next few days…weeks (or however long God decides to speak to me on this topic), I will be journaling about the topic of intimacy.
Intimacy is defined as:
1. a close, familiar, and usually affectionate or loving personal relationship
2. to have a close association with, detailed knowledge of, or deep understanding of
3. an act of expression serving as a token of familiarity
Synonyms include: affection, closeness, friendship, fondness
To be intimate with God is to know him. It is my desire to know him on a deeper level. I want to know God the same way that Adam “knew” Eve….every intricate part of his being.
